Ecstatic Beats is a game made for the annual GAME MAKER ITALIA contest.
It's an incomplete, buggy experimental work that won't ever get fully developed, one last whim before plunging into more serious & profitable projects.
With that said, I like to think that there's value to be found even in incomplete projects, as long as they give us emotions while we're giving them birth.
...Or maybe I'm just romaticizing failure!

Oh, the font used in the game is called Minimum and I really like it-- sorry for making a mess out of it
Oh and water tiles belong to Cave Story, I hope Studio Pixel won't get mad at me for using those...

The central gameplay can be very engaging, once the player figures out that they can dodge in midair and that chasing after a lost sword can let them play aggressively without risking health. The animation and audio design of the lady in the temple is fantastic. I wasn't able to figure out any means of progression past that point - finding various weapons around the world added them to the arsenal of enemies, but I was unable to find a way to clear it to the lady's satisfaction. The area to the left was interesting to traverse but only seemed to have a loop back to the starting area. I enjoyed my time with this unfinished artwork. It's bittersweet.
